Job Name: House in Ardbrack, Kinsale
Client: Private Client
Description: This is a replacement house on the site of a 60’s bungalow with spectacular views of Kinsale Harbour. The brief was to exploit sea views to a maximum and to provide a contemporary, energy efficient easy to run home for a semi-retired couple. The large triple glazed windows and sliding doors are unusual in that they have glass frames offering zero maintenance. Being South facing the flat roof has overhangs calculated to shade the large areas of glass from overheating when the sun is high in the Summer. Although the roof is flat, there are three different ceiling heights to suit the individual rooms and clearstorey lighting to bring light into the centre of the house. A major feature of the house is the use of external insulation. This material has also been used for window cills and the parapet coping with an acrylic paint finish.
